LOCALS: David Moore

20 March 2014  |

In this week's LOCALS feature we catch up with David Moore a freelance bike mechanic over in sunny Mallorca, along with his sweet looking Ragley Mmmbop.

Name: David Moore
Location: Mallorca, Spain
Job: Freelance bike mechanic and soon to be MTB Guide
Bike: Ragley Mmmbop

How long have you been riding?
All my life really! First started riding competitively on the road and track in 1989, soon after i got my first MTB as an alternative to my cross bike and I was smitten.

How often do you ride?
At least twice a week if not more.

What bike are you currently riding and talk us through your set up?
I only have the one bike so it has to be a real do it all machine. My Ragley Mmmbop set up with 140mm rockshox pikes 454 coils fits the bill nicely, it's set up with a double and bash which sees a bit of action! The wheels I built myself, Sun Ringle Inferno 27s on Superstar Switch Evo hubs running a Stans tubeless setup(a necessity here as its very rocky) with Maxxis High Roller single ply 2.35 tyres. The drivetrain is a typical mix of xt and slx.

What types of riding do you normally do?
It's typical all mountain stuff really climb up to bomb down, repeat!

What was the last new bit of gear on your bike?
The pedals, my old spds where starting to rattle so I got some new DX spds.

What's your favourite part on your bike?
The wheels and I would have to say the frame both of which have shrugged off numerous crashes and rock strikes, I know the general feeling is "steel is real" as far as hardtails are concerned but the stiffness has never been a problem for me and the weight advantage has been appreciated on many occasions!

What are your local trails?
We have no bike parks or trail centers here, but what we do have is miles and miles of old tracks criss crossing the mountains. I'm lucky living where I do in Alaro in that I have lots of trails within 5kms of my house and some are just at the end of my road!
